LIVE IT LOVE IT! HONG KONG

SO.
As promised, my post on my holiday trip. First up, Hong Kong. So basically we flew air asia to Macau and from Macau we took an hour long journey via ferry to Hong Kong.
Hong Kong is actually made up of a few islands and a peninsular. To keep things simple, it is made up of, the peninsular(Kowloon), and other islands like, Hong Kong Island, Lantau Island and other small islands. Hong Kong island’s the main business hub, the place where it all happens all the business stuff etc etc. while Lantau Island’s where Disneyland’s located. Yeap. Hong Kong’s very own Disneyland. The currency they use in HK is Hong Kong Dollars and I shall refer to it as HKD throughout this post. (RM1=2HKD)(Roughly)

So anyways, we took a 4hour flight from KL to Macau from LCCT on the 6th of December. Immediately upon touchdown, we boarded a ferry which would take us to the peninsular side of Hong Kong, Kowloon where our hotel was. Let’s just say the ferry ride was really rough. Everyone was either asleep or getting seasick. Anyways, upon arriving, we took a taxi to the hotel to check in. To our surprise, they gave us a free upgrade to a SUITE! Now that’s SWEET. In the suite, there was even a HUGE plasma TV in the LIVING ROOM. Oh yeah bebehh. And so, we left our luggage there and went out to meet my bro’s friend for dinner! (we were starving. It was almost 9 already.)
the ferry...
our hotel.

This is Frankie. Frankie met my bro through Uni. They play futsal together in Uni. Frankie speaks with a HEAVY HongKong-ese slang. the way he says “UNCLE” and “AUNTY” when he greet my parents aren’t like our Malaysian style of UN-KER and UN-TIIEE. He goes OUN-CLE and OAUN-Ti. Yeah:l can’t really type it out. Haha.

So anyways, we went to a restaurant called Crystal Jade where there were lots of ppl waiting outside just to get a seat. Imagine that! It’s already nine and ppl are still queuing to get a seat. Well according to Frankie, he took a number TWO HOURS AGO! So anyways, around nine something we finally got a place and we ate some simple dishes with fried rice(as the restaurant ran out of white rice) and chatted a lil with Frankie. Then when the bill came,
WHAM. 600HKD. My dad almost blacked out! Haha. Yes. A few simple dishes and the bill was 600 bucks. Oh well. So we paid and left, making our way to another superdupercrazywalauwei famous tong sui shop.
Upon reaching there, there were again lots of ppl waiting outside for a place to seat despite the cold weather. The temperature was around 13-16 degrees Celsius at that time as winter ain’t really THAT cold in HK. So anyways, we went in, ordered some tong sui and got to take a picture! Then another of my brother’s friend came along, to take over from Frankie (Frankie had another appointment). His name was Sherman or something I wasn’t sure. But he took us to this place called Avenue of Stars, which is something like the Hollywood walk of fame where u hv the star, and the celebrity’s name on it. Yeah. SO we managed to take some pictures, as well as pictures of the HongKong Island Skyline.

The tong sui shop! WITH the "dry ice effect":O
This is the avenue of stars i mentioned earlier.
my bro's OTHER friend, also met in uni..
sky is so clear!
yeah so i started taking pictures of my brothers with the stars(trying to emulate what we did in america)haha.
and my dad wasn't going to miss out on all the fun.

and then i asked them to take of picture of me.. and this happens-.- no hair-.- dunno how to take picture.
After that, we finally went back to our hotel while my brother went drinking with his friend.well actually he went to watch Man U’s match la since the hotel’s superhugechatbig plasma tv wasn’t telecasting. So he ended up coming back at 3.

The next morning, we had a new “tour guide”(:

This is uncle Daniel. Uncle Daniel is…
Is…
RICH.
He’s Malaysian but he has been working there for quite some time now. And is now retired. So first thing he did, he brought to every HongKong trip must-haves: YAM CHAR.
Now let me clarify.

In Malaysia, Yam Char would probably mean
Yam Char-go out to mamak with a group of friends drinking teh tarik while talking cock til the wee hours of the morning.
IN Hong Kong however, Yamchar means morning breakfast with DIMSUM(: where they sit in the restaurant for hours drinking CHINESE TEA while reading newspaper.

So there was this dish, where they put Yaocharguai into the cheecheongfan. Chee cheong fan is soft right? So when u bite it, u bite through the soft part easily. Then ur teeth slowly reach the CRUNCHY part of the Yaocharguai. U bite through the yaocharguai to find the insides filled with prawn and other stuffs.. HEH.

As u can see the restaurant overlooks HK island. Nice view.
So at the restaurant we discussed about the day’s plans and stuff. In the end, it was decided that the guys go to Ocean Park while my mum went other places with Uncle Daniel. Yeah so we board a ferry to HK island. It was only a 5 minute journey so it was no biggie. Anyway im going to fast forward the following events as there really isn’t much to talk about Ocean Park. Ahh. There was the dolphin show.
Ocean Park's a themepark/exhibition/family recreational place. the entrance ticket is about 200HKD and they hv rides and animal exhibitions and etc etc.

The building on the left, is a bank.

Dolphin SHOW!
And there was this part where we went and sat the carousel. Haha. My brother was jumping up and down, shaking the horse vigorously and doing all sorts of nonsense until the worker had to warn him through the loudspeaker XD
1st time we passed the worker’s booth,
(In Cantonese) “please do not shake.”
2nd time…
(In cantonese) “Please sit properly.”Hahaha.

retard on carousel.
2ndretard on carousel
we did it for him!:B
it was their feeding time. we managed to get a glimpse of them.
So anyways, during the night we went to this restaurant called Yung Kee. Which sells roast duck roast pork etc etc. boy. The que was bloody long! So while waiting, we went to see clothes in some nearby shops. DID I MENTION THAT HK’S A FASHION PARADISE? Ppl dress lavishly, very stylish and very trendy. In hong kong, every where u turn, there’s a big brand shop. Whether it’s LV or Versace. U name it, they hv it!

So then we ate dinner there. Uncle Daniel ordered some roasted pork, plate of vege, taufu, and one dish with prawn and a few more. Guess how much was the bill?
1200HKD. Yes u could practically see the life getting sucked out of my dad as he passed the credit card to the waitress.
Can u imagine? The dish with the prawn alone cost 120HKD! ONE PLATE. 60RINGGIT.
So after dinner we went for a little shopping! We went to Mongkok, which is like a huge street market where they sell…stuff. And then we also went to nearby departmental stores, where I got my coat for prom!:O
Hehe. Anyways we headed back to the hotel after that la. It was late already.

Day 3
Yes I know it’s long. Bear with me bear with me. It’s a little bit more.
So then today we decided to go to visit a monastery at Lantau Island. So first, we took the MTR (their subway) which went BELOW the seabed all the way to lantau island where we took a cable car to Po Lin Monastery.

cable car which stretches across the sea!
HONG KONG's Airport as viewed from the cable car.

the buddha statue is made of bronze.
U must be wondering why the hell im grabbing onto his hands so tightly as if im gay.
Well.
This happens when u don’t.

And THIS.

We spent almost the whole day there. And finally after that, in the evening, we went back to hotel and boarded the bus to our next stop,
SHENZHEN!

*ah yes. Did I mention that my mum bought RM2000 worth of scallop!:O
Well all in all, HK’s not a bad place. Language isn’t much of a problem either since most KL ppl speak Cantonese. Anyways, most of them do speak English. Moving around is pretty easy too with the MTR and taxi. Besides, weather’s pretty good too. Being close to the equator, its winter aren’t too cold, in fact it’s very comfortable. However, things are no doubt more pricey in HK. including the taxi and the MTR. According to uncle Daniel, cars aren’t really that expensive there, but the parking lot he had to buy, was 700,000HKD! Yup. 700,000HKD for a parking lot. BUT, if u’re willing to reach deep into ur pocket, HK’s probably a very enjoyable place.
I give it a 4 out of 5(:

snapped this on the MTR.
